conveniences-banner-elk-downtownThe First Annual Banner Elk Downtown Get Down is scheduled for this Sunday, October 25th from 1:00pm until dark!

Already being affectionately referred to as “the festivus for the rest of us”, citizens of Banner Elk are banding together to help a community member in need and bring some great music and fun to the High Country.  What started as discussions about the best way to assist a friend who must undergo a kidney transplant has grown into what they hope will be an annual music festival for the locals.  On Sunday, October 25th everyone in the High Country is invited to the Banner Elk Town Park for the “Downtown Get Down”.

Donating food for the event are Artisinal Restaurant, The Bayou Smokehouse, Stonewall’s, Sorrento’s, Bellas, Pappy’s and The Hearthstone Tavern & Grille.  The silent auction will include items from Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Ski Country Sports, Pepper’s, Crippen’s Country Inn and Restaurant, Makoto’s, The Best Cellar at the Inn at Ragged Garden, Peabody’s Wine and Beer Merchants, Finders Keepers, Savory Thymes, Erick’s Cheese and Wine, The Louisiana Purchase, The Best Western Mountain Lodge, The 1906 Pine Crest Inn, Dereka’s Sugar Mountain Accommodations,  and Elk River Country Club.

The festivities will begin at 1:00 pm and continue on until dark, or maybe a little later (the event is planned to run until 6pm but if the weather is nice and we’re all having a blast, we may stay until 10pm).  There will be face painting and other activities for the kiddies as well as a great playground already available.  The organizers ask that you not bring coolers as the music is free and the money being raised will come solely from the sale of food, drink, t-shirts and the silent auction.

Named One Of The Top Ten Fall Festivals in North America by the Society of American Travel Writers!

The Wooly Worm Festival is October 17th, 2009!

Back in the late 1970s, the editor of the now-defunct Mountain Living Magazine, Jim Morton, was preparing to include a Woolly Worm Forecast in the winter issue of the magazine. He photographed the first Woolly Worm he saw to use in formulating the prediction and illustrating his story, but the next day he saw a second worm that looked completely different from the first.

“That’s when it struck me that we needed some formal procedure to use to decide which was going to be the official worm for making the winter forecast,” said Morton.

So since 1978, the residents of the village nestled between the Carolina’s two largest ski resorts have celebrated the coming of the snow season with a Woolly Worm Festival. They set aside the third weekend in October  to determine which one worm will have the honor of predicting the severity of the coming winter; and they make that worm earn the honor by winning heat after heat of hard-fought races - up a three-foot length of string.

Here at The Headwaters, we’ve ignored the recession and continued with our tremendous momentum.  We just finished the strongest September ever in the history of Headwaters.  Our sales team wrote nine arms length contracts in the month.  In fact, that is the second best month ever in the history of the community.  I say, “arms length” contracts because it is easy to be fooled by some in this business who create inter-company transfers in an effort to boost the appearance of sales activity.

Furthermore, this was accomplished without drastic price reductions like those of some of our competitors.  Why?  Because The Headwaters already offers the best value of any real estate development in The High Country, so we haven’t had to cut prices.  This sales activity included one resale lot, five new lots, one condominium and two cottage home contracts.  We expect the trend to continue with a great October, based on the fact that we have many appointments lined up, as well as October traditionally being the best month of the year.

So make your plans now and see all that we have going on.  If you visited us a year or more ago, you’ll be astonished at the amount of new homes and activity taking place up here.  Call us today at 866.200.3290 to schedule a private tour!
