Headwaters Outdoor Companion Guide

Posted by: Headwaters    in Headwaters at Banner Elk

picture1The Headwaters at Banner Elk is blessed to have such outstanding property owners within its family.  One such family is the Wood family of Hillsborough, North Carolina.  Michael and Dorothy Wood purchased a Springhouse Villa Condominium just over a year ago and love being at The Headwaters.  Michael owns an environmental services company called The Catena Group which provides soils evaluation, wetlands surveys, environmental impact statements, etc.  Part of what attracted them to The Headwaters was the abundance of natural beauty and wildlife not often found in other communities.  This prompted Michael to create a one of a kind outdoor guide book.

The result is the 44 page Headwaters Outdoor Companion Guide which can be viewed by clicking http://www.tcg-ecoguides.com/outdoor-companion/index.html.  This is a professionally created guide book that details the plant life, flora, wildlife habitat and natural features found in The Headwaters.  This includes descriptions of “micro-environments” around waterfalls, springs and the unique rock formations.  It even describes the history of the property including how there was once a railroad spur of the Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad, better known as “Tweetsie” that traveled up to what is today the Lakeside Picnic Pavilion.  It was used for logging in the late 1800’s.  It was also discovered that there was at least one moonshine still located on the property, evidence of which has been found under a large overhang adjacent to the Falls Creek Waterfall.

These are just some of the interesting details about The Headwaters and surrounding area you’ll learn.  The guide will eventually be printed and available for purchase to be used when hiking the many miles of walking trails located within The Headwaters and throughout the adjoining Pisgah and Cherokee National Forests.  We congratulate Michael and his team of experts on the fantastic job they’ve done in creating this outdoor guide.  To our knowledge, no other development in the High Country offers anything like it.  But then again, no other development features such incredible natural scenic beauty.”
